In a recent episode of late night television, hosts Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers addressed the technical difficulties that plagued the two-hour interview between Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump on Musk’s revamped platform, X. The interview, though significant, was marred by challenges that Musk attributed to a purported Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack.
During the opening monologues aired on Tuesday evening, Colbert humorously characterized the encounter as an event marked by “weird old rich guys with no friends”. He pointedly remarked that Trump’s return to X served as a reminder of the reasons behind his initial ban, likening the situation to receiving an unwelcome party invitation. Colbert further criticized Musk’s claim of a technical attack, suggesting incredulity regarding the justification for the delay. According to reports from sources at Twitter cited by The Verge, there was reportedly no evidence supporting Musk’s assertions, leading Colbert to humorously imply that there was a high likelihood Musk was not being truthful.
Seth Meyers joined in the satirical commentary, mocking Trump’s erratic statements during the interview, including an implausible claim regarding a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meyers remarked on the bizarre quality of Trump’s voice during the discussion, likening it to that of a child exhibiting an overabundance of sugar-fueled energy on Halloween. Furthermore, he criticized a convoluted statement from Trump regarding various technological topics, quipping that artificial intelligence might have authored the perplexing sentence.
As the election approaches in November, Musk has increasingly leveraged his prominent position and influence through X to comment on political matters and other topical issues, as highlighted in a recent article in The New Yorker. This emerging trend suggests a notable intertwining of technology and politics, particularly in relation to Musk’s engagement with major global narratives.
