Law enforcement officials in Butler County have released a video that captures the chaotic moments when police attempted to locate Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man identified as the shooter who fired upon Donald Trump during a campaign event. The footage, generated from police body cameras and made public following a request for records, reveals the local authorities’ frustration as they struggled to apprehend Crooks prior to the incident.
On the day of the shooting, Crooks managed to evade law enforcement, scale a nearby rooftop, and unleash eight rounds from a semi-automatic rifle at the former president and current Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Tragically, Crooks’s actions resulted in the death of an individual within the crowd and left two others severely injured. Reports indicate that Donald Trump sustained a minor injury to his right ear before the assailant was neutralized by a marksman from the United States Secret Service.
In the wake of this alarming event, multiple investigations are underway to examine the myriad security lapses that precipitated this shooting. The authorities are focused on uncovering how such a serious breach of security occurred, ensuring that lessons are learned to prevent future incidents.
