In a recent, highly publicized interview hosted by Elon Musk on the social media platform X, former President Donald Trump made a series of controversial remarks regarding various geopolitical figures and issues. Despite facing significant technical difficulties attributed to a purported cyberattack, the discussion proceeded with Trump highlighting his foreign policy perspectives and immigration reform strategies.
The interview began with Trump expressing grave concerns about the potential influx of immigrants if the Democratic Party were to succeed in the upcoming elections. He stated, “If the Democrats win, 50 to 60 million people will be coming from all over the world. We are already overwhelmed. Under my leadership, we will witness the largest deportation in our nation’s history.”
Technical issues delayed the start of the conversation, with Musk indicating that a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack caused the site to become overloaded and inaccessible to many users. Throughout the discussion, Musk reaffirmed his support for Trump, urging moderate voters to back the Republican candidate, describing an optimistic vision for the future.
During the two-hour dialogue, Trump warned of the risks of a potential Third World War. He discussed his past communications with Russian President Vladimir Putin, asserting that he had forewarned Putin against invading Ukraine. Trump criticized the European Union’s trade practices and called for a more equitable contribution towards military expenses regarding Ukraine. He also mentioned receiving a letter from Brussels, which he viewed as an attempt at censorship.
Trump’s remarks regarding global leaders were particularly notable as he expressed a favorable view of both Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating, “I know each of them. Getting along with them is good, not bad. They are at the top of their game, tough and smart, and they will protect their countries.” On tensions between Iran and Israel, he expressed confidence that Iran would not initiate an attack, asserting, “Everyone is expecting Iran to strike, but believe me, they will not.”
One of the more controversial aspects of the interview was Trump’s praise for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, referring to his administration’s purported success in decreasing crime rates by 72%, a claim accompanied by allegations of human rights abuses by international organizations.
In addition to matters of foreign policy and immigration, Trump touched on various domestic concerns including his experience with an assassination attempt, proposing a missile defense system akin to Israel’s Iron Dome, and advocating for the dismantling of the Federal Department of Education in favor of state-level responsibility. He notably praised Tesla, Musk’s electric vehicle company, signaling support for advancements in green technology.
As the discussion turned political, Trump expressed his disdain for Vice President Kamala Harris, criticizing her progressive agenda and suggesting that her potential presidential candidacy would be a detrimental development for the country. His remarks drew immediate backlash from Harris’s team, who characterized both Musk and Trump as wealthy individuals out of touch with middle-class Americans and lacking the capability to effectively manage a livestream event.
